Part-time work for up to 20 hours a week if:
- Your course is at least 2 years in duration
- Your study leads to a New Zealand qualification that gains points under the Skilled Migrant Category
- Your course is taught at a private training institution or tertiary institution, and the main purpose is to develop English language skills.
- You must have an IELTS overall band score of 5.0 that’s no more than 2 years old Your course is full-time English language study lasting at least 14 consecutive weeks at a university
Full-time work during all scheduled breaks if:
- Your study programme is for at least 1 academic year and course is worth more than 120 credits
Full-time work during the Christmas and New Year holiday period if:
- Your study programme is for at least 1 academic year BUT course is worth less than 120 credits
Note: If you’re enrolled in Masters by research or doctoral degree programme awarded by a New Zealand tertiary institution, then there are no restrictions on the hours you can work.
Post-study Work Visa:
This is a great option for many students after successful completion of their qualification in New Zealand. The purpose of this visa is to provide former international students with the opportunity to find work that is relevant to their studies and utilise the skills and knowledge they have acquired.
The study to work pathway currently has two steps:
- Post Study Work Visa (Open)
- Post Study Work Visa (Employer Assisted)
However, INZ policy is changing and they will only grant Post Study Work Visas (Open). These changes will come into effect on 26 November 2018.

Auckland Institute of Studies
Auckland Institute of Studies was established in 1990 and one of the largest privately-owned tertiary institute in Auckland, New Zealand. The institute has two campuses located in Mount Albert in Central Auckland. St Helens campus is situated in a park-like setting next to Chamberlain Park Golf Course and was once the St Helens Auckland Maternity Hospital. The Asquith campus is located a five-minute walk away, close to St Lukes shopping centre and with excellent transport links to the city and the central and western suburbs. Overseas Registration And Practicing License:
Some professions in New Zealand needs to obtain occupational registration before they can practice like Accountants, Nurses, Medical Technologist, Teachers, Engineers or Plumbers, among a few. We can contact professional registration bodies like Institute of Chartered Accountants, Education Council New Zealand, Nursing Council of New Zealand, Medical Sciences Council, Electrical Workers Registration Board and the like to facilitate entry and completion of competency programs if required. For those occupations requiring NZ registration, assessment is required by the industry’s regulatory body.
